Copley Square in Boston reopened Wednesday morning, just a week after the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line. Lite Rock 105's Heather Gersten took a ride into the city Wednesday to visit the two bombing sites and to see the memorial that's growing at nearby Copley Square.
"It was a gorgeous day to be out in the city and I just felt like I needed to go. My parents are also in town visiting from Miami, so I thought it would be a good day to take them to see the memorial and to show our support to the just re-opened city of Boston! It's still surreal and still so so sad. My heart aches for the victims and their families," said Heather.
Heather is from the "Jones and Heather in the Morning" radio show on Lite Rock 105 in Providence. She lives with her family in Waltham, MA, a city outside of Boston that was in lockdown last Friday as authorities searched for one of the bombing suspects. Her husband is also a Waltham Fire Fighter. Coincidentally, while she visited Boston today, Heather ran into Waltham Fire Fighter Matthew Kiernan, who was there with his therapy dog, Daisy, to comfort memorial visitors. Daisy trained with Therapy Dog International in New Jersey.
